AIR.

僕らが生命活動を維持するのに必要なものですし、スニーカーが好きな人はこの3文字に心躍らされ、財布に穴を空けられてしまった経験もあることでしょう。

You can signify the word as something necessary for you to live. It's also a word that probably made shoe-lovers broke.

AIRが指す意味は多様ですが、ここではアーティストインレジデンスの頭文字をとった略称のことを言います。芸術制作活動をする人を異なる地域に招致し、制作活動を行うプログラムのことです。世界中にあり、日本にも数多く存在します。

There're many ways to define AIR, but here, it points out the word Artist In Residence. It's a program where artists are invited away from their usual space and obligations for a particular time to research, produce and present. It exist all around the world and many in Japan as well.

AIRYは10年前に山梨に誕生しました。AIRに山梨のYをつけてAIRY（エアリー）です。

AIRY was found 10 years ago in Yamanashi. AIRY presents AIR but with a Yamanashi "Y" in it.

今年10周年を迎えるAIRYは山梨県の各4箇所を拠点に同時多発AIRを現在開催しています。

This year is AIRY's 10th anniversary. For its big contribution, 4 artist are creating their projects all at once, but in 4 different location.

ローラ、アナ、ドゥレ、ヨナ、国籍も、経歴も、キャラクターもゆたかな4名が山梨の各地域で制作活動を行っています。

The 4 artists are Laura, Anna, Dre, and Johna. They all are unique with different nationality, backgrounds and characteristics.

滞在しているアーティストは、ただ作品をつくるのではありません。その土地に暮らし、その土地の人々と交流します。ある者は、本を作ったり、ある者は画を描き、ある者は踊りを説く。アーティスト自身が持っているスキルを活かして、制作活動をサポートする地域の方々に還元するのです。

The artists aren't just creating art work. They live and interact with the locals. Some write books, some draw pictures, and some dance. Each artist performs their skills and they bring something new to the people and the community that supports them.

これは、アートを通してコミュニケ—ションを生み出し、アーティストと地域、双方向の感性に働きかけることができるAIRにおいて最も重要な要素です。

This creates communication through art. "Artists and the community". The importance of AIR where combining two things to create new sensibilities.

国や文化や環境が違うところから、わたしたちの暮らす土地を訪れたアーティストたちとの交流は、今までになかった視点や考え方、アイデアのヒントが得られ、別の視点を与えてくれるでしょう。これは地域全体にとってもわたしたち個人にとっても、大きな可能性とチャンスを、AIRはもたらしてくれているのです。

Interacting with the artist from different country, culture and environment gives you new point of views and ideas. The new ideas give you hints to new perspectives. This is a huge chance that AIR is giving not only to the community but each of us in individual.

アートとはなんでしょうか？わたしたちにも定義はわかりませんが、わたしたちの見慣れた景色は、誰かにとってのアートになり得るということは言えます。その逆もまたしかり。アートを難しく捉える必要はないのだと思います。

What is art? I can't define the exact meaning of art but I believe anything that we are surrounded by could be an art. It's not necessarily to take art as something difficult.

アートは生きていくために必要な空気と同じです。人間的に生きていくということを前提としますが、食事や睡眠と同じく、なくてはならないものです。身近なことでいえば、音楽を聴くことや踊ること、絵や写真をみたり、風景に出会うこと。アートは目に見えない空気と同じように、人の営みに寄り添い、存在しているのです。

Based on the assumption of human needs, art is what you need for living. Like the needs of air, food and sleep. Art that surrounds us on a daily basis could be music, dancing, drawing, pictures, and sightseeing. Art is like air, you don't notice how important they are. They are unseen by our vision but surrounds us, human beings.

目に見える数字やデータを追いかけることのみに執着することは果たして人間らしいといえるでしょうか。寝ることと食べることをただ繰り返すことのみが人間らしい生活といえるでしょうか。ユーモアとアイデアを取り入れたコミュニケーション活動こそ本当に人間らしい生き方ではないかと、わたしたちは思っています。

Do you believe that life attached with numbers and data is something humanlike? Or do you believe constantly repeating to sleep and eat is humanlike? You could live, but I believe communicating with humor and ideas are more of a human way of living.

AIRYが山梨に生まれてからの10年の歩みとこれからの10年をテーマに、4月29日にクロストークが山梨県立図書館で開催されます。LILYも通訳のひとりとして参加させていただきます。ICHILYNではAIRY10周年に伴って行われる様々な活動やイベントを見て体験し、記事にしていこうと思います。

Based on the 10th anniversary of AIRY in Yamanashi, A cross talk event is being held on April 29th at the Yamanashi Prefectural Library. Lily's going to be one of the translator between the artist and the audience. ICHILYN will be updating activities and events of AIRY's 10th anniversary project here, in our blog.

村田達彦 Tatsuhiko Murata

「遊工房共同代表」

遊工房アートスペースをベースに、国内外の若手アーティストの創作・展示などの支援や国際交流の活動を実践。2001年より自前の旧診療所兼結核療養所スペースで本格的にAIRを開始。AIRの世界ネットワーク Res Artis に加盟する一方でアートを通した地域活性化を展開中。
